Swimming in the PM with Emma. Did some running drills in the pool at the end, too.

% I've been having dreams about swimming and uh swim practices and dramatic swim team-related things for the past few days. In one of them, I was standing at the edge of the pool for practice, and Clint wouldn't let me get in, lol. That bad, eh? Perhaps my subconscious is telling me that I'm not completely okay yet? Well, in my dream last night, I was in a race, doing a 50 breast. I was up against some really fast people, and I was totally expecting to get owned. But somehow, as I was swimming, I kept up and no one passed me. I won in a 32.67. I was up and high out of the water, and each stroke was incredibly powerful and efficient. Moreover, it was a dream in first person. It felt wonderful. I tried to recreate that feeling in the pool today, but mostly failed.

% Also, it's icy here from the melted/refrozen snow. Today, I actually slipped and fell. My left knee is a wee bit swollen and hurts when I flex it =/.

forgiveness is the scent a flower leaves on the soul of the shoe that crushed it.

Remember, remember the 5th of November. 4 miles. And then hiked up part of Arthur's seat in the PM with my flatmates and others. It was a wet one.

Saturday, November 6, 2010
Off.

Sunday, November 7, 2010
40 minutes around the base of Arthur's seat. Stitch. Left foot felt weird. Arches. Abs/light weights. Vegetables tasted really good today - ate a whole cabbage =D.

Goals for this coming week:
1. fix and get on a regular sleep schedule (no more of this 3/11/2/9.5 business.
2. swim every day
3. less cake, more vegetables.

Dance mix.

Wednesday, 20 October, 2010.
Hiked up Arthur's seat with SCE, had a picnic of sorts, and walked around.

Then went swimming avec moi, 3800m. Indoor pools are suffocating. Swam clockwise today.

be good, be good... have you ever played with fire? something so fascinating, beautiful, and so dangerous. I want to play with that metaphorical fire called love. my fire, my one desire. but I don't want to burn. because I don't like the way it hurts.

4000m in the pool today. I'm feeling stronger. Maybe it was because I was feeling happy. My emotional state seems to have a large effect on my training. For the sprints, did a 34 (31 for 50y) from a push! Awesome! My quads indicated that they wanted to cramp up while I was doing my kick set, so took it easy for the last 100, and then cooled down 300.

Friday, 22 October, 2010.
Off. Worky work.

Saturday, Sunday.
Hiked up Arthur's seat and walked around a bit. In the company of the lovely Perrin Considine.

4 miles + walking around and shopping in the PM. Sleeping still wack (from the weekend?) so today was just generally miserable. Today, I went to sleep around 11, but woke up at 2 and didn't sleep again until 7. Then I had class at 9am... fml. Then did the "dance mix" class at the gym with Aurora. Fun!

Wednesday, 13 October, 2010
4. blisters on ma heels :(. Was able to sleep normally. Dear lord, being rested feels fantastic. Shimmery dreams of flying.

Thursday, 14 October, 2010
4. Getting enough sleep feels good. This week has been kind of awesome, weather-wise. I've been inhaling a fair amount of junk this week: tube of digestive biscuits, box of chocolate fingers, box of custard tarts, these other disgustingly sugary raspberry tarts also from Tesco. And I ate a jar of jam last week. But there isn't really real food that I am wanting to eat. I'm not sure why. doh. :(

Friday, 15 October, 2010.
Off. Doing work and observing the world. Apparently it rained while I was in the library. Woke up before my alarm today. Was a tiny bit tired, but not sleepy. I like unit ops class. I feel so at home doing derivations. Was sleepy during EL1 in the PM, though... I think I fell asleep temporarily >.<. Cheese bread. Pasta. 3x15 weights. And some abs.

Saturday, 16 October, 2010.
2100m in the pool. 500fr/300IM kick/200drill.4x50fr,4x50br/fr,100kick,drills. I can't seem to get high enough out of the water on the in-sweep.

Sunday, 17 October 2010.
76 minutes, prancing through forests. Tight legs - lower calf/Achilles wrapping around to shins area. Too much heels? hm. And then this spot on the outer right ankle area was paining me. I think that was from my tights zipper though >.<. Legs seemed to loosen up as the run went on, though. Head is somewhat clearer now.

open my eyes, yeah; it was only just a dream.

wake me up when September ends. well, how about that, it's October.

36 miles running,1000 yards swimming.

Sunday, October 3.
87 minutes, perhaps 9 miles? Wet shoes, peeling feet (ew...), and smiles all around. Had a pretty fantastic run in the Pentlands with a few orienteers. Not a kind run... quite hilly, and I was pretty much walking at times (so steep that the achilles were complaining), and it was horizontal rain so I was covering my ears with my jacket, my shoes finally got kissed, ankles took a beating (the left one was painful when I landed on it sometimes). Nonetheless, a fantastic run. It was a run with sheep and highland cows, through rolling green hills of lore. I'm not sure what the feeling is. Just something incredibly pure, exhilarating, and altogether simply wonderful. It's been a little while. Running makes me happy, I guess.

And this is really weird: the inside of my knee is twitching. It was kind of bothering me while walking around yesterday, and then started twitching at night after I got back. It didn't hurt at all while running.

Monday, 4 October, 2010
62 minutes. perhaps 7? After getting out of the city, went exploring forests today. It is so so so beautiful here. It was reminiscent of running through Redwood. There were a lot of paths that went off - will definitely go back; I hope to explore all of those, eventually. I pretty much did an out-and-back. Got a little bit of a stitch that I can still feel (partially from yesterday) but it was mostly fine, because I was maintaining a pretty leisurely pace. Felt great for the first half, then legs started getting a little heavy on the way back. Took a detour and did half a loop around the meadows before retracing the route back home. I wish the forest were a bit closer to me - it's a bit annoying getting out of the city, because there are so many people on the streets, but there's not really a way around it (that I've found yet, at least). Not that I'm complaining... this is pretty fantastic.

Tuesday, 5 October, 2010
4 miles, just to and from KB. Tendon on the inside of my right leg is still bothering me when I walk around; kind of clicks sometimes.

Wednesday, 6 October, 2010
Hopes, dreams, and setting reasonable immediate goals. 64 minutes by and around Arthur's seat. Estimate 7. Felt that sharp twinge on my left ankle on the landing of some foot strikes. Explored a little bit by taking some single tracks off the trail. I don't think I can get on foot to the far side of the Loch where the marshes are - darn. Light abs.

Thursday, 7 October, 2010
4 + ~5 (46 mins) in the meadows. Finally went and got a gym membership today! 62 quid is a bit pricey... oh well - I plan to make use of the pool fairly regularly, and maybe venture into the rest of it. Tired legs (slightly sore from squats and lunges)... the run felt really long - I wanted to head back at some point, but it was only 28 mins when I checked my watch, so I willed myself to do another one before trotting back. I don't like running at night by myself as it's getting dark. On a mission to get stronger.

Friday, 8 October, 2010
~1000 yards, swimming with Emma in the AM. Well, we kind of did our own thing in the pool. Oof, feel out of shape, weak, and inefficient in the water. Forgot my cap & goggles the first time, so ran back to get them in my flip flops. Set out to do a workout, but scrapped that plan pretty quickly, and didn't really keep track of what I did in that 45 mins. I think it included 200 fr, 400 kick, 200 various free drills, 200 free, 25 fly somewhere in there. I want a swimming lesson. I always feel like I'm injured (right groin) when I do breast kick. But the apple-blackcurrant pie afterward was delicious, even though it meant a brisk walk to KB to get to class on time.

Saturday, 9 October and Sunday, 10 October.
Off... way off. Being a wee bit too silly.

Breathing's just a rhythm.

Monday, September 20, 2010
Freshers relays with the Haries. I split the third and final leg of our 3-mile relay in 6:18. I opted for the "medium" group - not the elite group or the joggers. Not ready to sink to the level of a jogger yet :). Not very fast, but then, I was standing there for a good 14 minutes before starting my run cold... wasn't inclined to be stupid and pull something. Not to mention... I haven't run in 2 weeks, almost. I think my head starts hurting when it's really cold outside. Anyways, running felt good! I was tired at the end - I was going to pass this girl, but then she started running faster and didn't let me; I passed this other girl right before the finish line.

Tuesday, September 21, 2010
Was going to go to intervals, but my right hamstring hurts. I walked to KB today, because I felt like it. Felt the hamstring then, too. It just feels really tight... ran too fast too un-warmed up yesterday, I think.

Wednesday, September 22, 2010
Off. Right hamstring still hurts and my right IT band is painfully tight.

Thursday, September 23, 2010
Went up to Arthur's Seat with the Eucolegends after a day of rain. Was windy, did a graceful butt slide, ate some wild blackberries, and oriented myself (somewhat) and followed others along a short intro course. IT band felt less painful after I tried massaging it a bit. Still feel the hamstring. Rolled my ankle a few times... maybe I'm not cut out for this...

Friday, September 24, 2010
Today was a beautiful day. 45 mins running. (minus from Pollock back home... I wanted to see how long it takes me to walk from Pollock halls to my house, since I have to do that tomorrow morning under time constraints.) Decked out in tights and underarmour, went out to Arthur's seat and ran a loop around it. So beautiful... I love the short golf-course style grass trail that has been mowed for (what seems like) pedestrians and people out there. It's wonderful. Legs felt a bit dead, felt the right hip again. But running is so wonderful.

Saturday, September 25, 2010
4.5k in St. Andrews, with frequent stops to read maps and look for controls.

a whole new world, a new fantastic point of view

Thursday, September 16, 2010
I'm in Edinburgh! Just had a beer and a cider black... my head feels a little bit funny right now =S. Have been walking mostly everywhere here, but haven't broken out the running shoes yet. Hit the pool for a bit today - well, that's pushing it. I got into the pool and swam a few laps as a part of the "crazy relays." Signed up for the swimming club and running club today at the club and society fair.

close your eyes and trust it, just trust it

9.6 miles running, 12 biking

Monday, August 30, 2010
4.5 miles, Huntington with the xc team. Preseason commenced today. It's really weird to think about the fact that I'm not running this season. Bettina was there. Hip hurt a little bit, but not too bad. Erin said that I pulled one of my hip muscles: there are 4 that fan upward, and then a superficial one and a deep one. I pulled the superficial one. Iced.

Tuesday, August 31, 2010
off. errands, donating shoes, returning library books, packing up, and going home.

Wednesday, September 1, 2010
Off. Hip is bothering me. But maybe stretching won't help that much, after all.

Thursday, September 2, 2010
5.1 miles, 45 minutes. Very leisurely pace, about 10 minutes after eating dinner =S. Stomach didn't feel great, but it was better than I had expected :). Hip didn't bother me too much, but will stretch it out.

Also did 12 miles of biking in the PM with my brother. I feel slow.. and it was hot.

Friday, September 3, 2010
Swimming with my mom in the AM. It was more like treading water and kicking, because I couldn't pull with my left arm really... got a tetanus shot yesterday =[.

i just wanna live while i'm alive

it's my life.
9.3 miles running.
----------------------
Monday-Saturday: off.
Packing, staining, packing, falling apart, dinners, goodbyes, packing, parents, tea, wandering.

Sunday, August 29, 2010
9.3 miles running + some 4 miles of frolicking and walking back, with BW. Felt really good to run. Legs felt good, but the hip came back. Not as bad as the last time when I tried to run, but stretched it out anyways. Still really love those rolling hills on that back stretch of this run.

promise me that all you say is true, that's all I ask of you.

Monday, August 16, 2010
Something like 2 or 3 miles with Stephanie, laced with frequent stops, 7 jello shots, 3 tunnels, 1 wade through a trash-filled creek, 1 freeway crossing, 1 "lost car," and a few scaling of hills. This was a fantastic adventure (I dare not call it a run, because it wasn't really...), especially because I was really wanting an adventure (and copious amounts of sleep) after presenting at group meeting.

Tuesday, August 17, 2010
Swimming with Brian in the AM. I didn't keep track of the yardage, and we didn't finish the workout. Was tired... went to sleep pretty early last night, but then woke up and couldn't fall asleep again.. same old story.

PM: Clara drove to the gym (after practicing driving for a while), and we attempted to run around the north field after breaking in. But, my (I think it is) IT band (that same hip thing on my left side that has been bothering me) felt like it was going to get (more) injured, so then we stopped after 7 minutes and stretched. Then we did another lap around, but it was still bothering me, so then we stopped, and switched to doing abs. Then I got hungry, and left Clara to run with Ian. And then I had ice cream.

Wednesday, Thursday August 18-19, 2010
Off.
Ennui unbridled and time forsaken,
In SURF seminars and nerves shake,
In the thirst that chases consumption of salty jalapeno cheese loafs,
Is it a mistake
to get lost in the long walks at night
taken?

Friday, August 20, 2010
23.6 miles biking, to the river trail and back. Damn, it's hot outside. I think I might have gotten burned, despite the copious amounts of sunscreen I applied before leaving. I also kind of wiped out in Monrovia, when a car was backing out and not looking, so then I went onto the sidewalk to avoid a collision. But I guess my wheel got stuck as I was getting onto the sidewalk, and then my bike just kind of fell over. Somehow, I managed to get off the bike before it did that, so nothing happened to me. Was just mildly frightening, though.

also, I'm kind of a champion, in that I get chain grease on myself before even setting out for my rides.

Saturday, Sunday: Off. Observing animals, cooking pesto ravioli from scratch, baking tarts, eating, movie-watching, grinning, and just generally being happy.

maybe we're crazy, probably.

34.2 miles running, 3000 yards swimming.

Monday, August 9, 2010
11.8 miles, 95 minutes. Have I mentioned that Patrician is my favorite run? And every time I've done it has been different! Decided to come back through the arroyo today. I started out considering upper arroyo, but it was calling to me. I really really enjoy the flat, downhill, and rolling hills (although they do make me breath heavily and winded), and running into the sunset. And watching the sun set over the rose bowl and various golf courses. Right middle bottom calf, left hamstring were sore. And I almost got run over by a car while jay-walking... oopsie poopsie... But other than that, it was a pretty fantastic run.

On a separate note, I think I run my runs like progression runs (Stephanie was talking about progression runs). Well, it was 18 mins at Singer Park, and then 35 mins turning onto Patrician. Then the hills made me slower, to 62 mins when I reached the 5k loop. But then in the Arroyo it was pretty fantastic again. And then coming home was pretty ok.

Tuesday, August 10, 2010
3000 yards (I think). 500 fr, 800 IM kick, 300 drill/drill/swim, 2x300 pull, 8 50's cycle through IM, 6x100. I can't remember all of what I did. I would have preferred to sleep today. I feel like it's easier to make commitments to other committed people than yourself.

6.7 miles, 52 minutes (I think) with Brian. Return of The night run. I just really wanted to run, after getting back from watching Despicable Me. It's pretty cute. Started out kind of fast - was not quite what I expected when he said "slow run" but I was like alright...; legs were pretty feeling turning onto Oak Knoll, and it slowed down a lot on Huntington. Now my quads and outer hips/butt are sore, too.

Wednesday, August 11, 2010
off. Staining and microscopes and qPCR's.. oh my! gluts and general legs were sore walking around lab.

Thursday, August 12, 2010
11.3 miles. Left butt/hip was really hurting, legs were dead/tight, and generally no good. Stretched for a while at Rose Bowl. Then the way home was ok. Got not enough sleep, and it was a miserable day. But, what started as an incredibly shitty day ended in an incredibly amazing and surreal way. I am thankful for those things in life that make you smile and brighten your world.

Friday, August 13, 2010
4.4 miles. Stopped at Lacy to stretch out the hip. And then I fell asleep for a bit. And then headed back. Legs are dead.

Saturday and Sunday: off. Baking, eating, cooking and researching.

if you put down your pen, leave the worries behind, then the moment will come, and the memory will shine.

15 miles running, 20 miles biking, 6000 yards swimming
_____________

Monday, August 2, 2010
20 miles biking (Chantry), with Clara. Legs felt less fresh today than they did when I did this last week. But, I broke the 40 mph when coming down that long straight part at the end of the descent! And I was stuck behind a car (never imagined that ever happening to me - it's usually the other way around) for a good bit of the way down right before the end, too.

Tuesday, August 3, 2010
Swim in the AM with Brian. I'm not sure of the yardage - it wasn't very much. Was mostly strokework for back and free. I was rather miserable for the whole workout, though... I was mostly wishing I were still in the comfort of my bed. And then I felt really shitty all day, because I couldn't fall asleep at night.

Wednesday, August 4, 2010
Off.

Thursday, August 5, 2010
3800 yards. Swim in the AM with Brian. Probably the first workout I've ever written, and I think it was ok.

Friday, August 6, 2010
15 miles in 123 minutes. (I forgot to start my watch between Singer Park and Orange Grove, so that time isn't completely accurate, but whatever...). Holy shit! That's the longest run I've ever done :). And it felt pretty damn good. Even the hills seemed pretty friendly, today. And my stomach didn't complain. The weather was pretty perfect, once I crossed the bridge onto Patrician. Today started out terribly, and then I decided that I needed to go on a run. I set out to do Patrician, but then I got a bit lost when I went down the wrong street and got confused, and then went to the Rose bowl, and was feeling inclined to do the 5k loop. And I saw Stephanie! I was wondering if that was her, but she wasn't moving very fast, so then I didn't call out her name until I approached closer, and then it turned out to be her :). So I finished the loop, and then got some water, stretched out my calves and left hamstring, and then I trotted home.

Saturday and Sunday: Off.

imagine you could tear the world apart, lay it all out like a weather chart.

41.5 miles running (!), 20 miles biking, 4000 yards swimming.
______________________
Monday, July 26, 2010
11 miles (well, 3 + 8, with an interlude at the beginning of mile 3, when I was joined by Stephanie :), and shuttled to the south end of the Arroyo.(miles 3-11 in 67 mins; didn't time the first 3.) It was reminiscent of that 800 at interhouse track last year - the feeling of running, and it's very poetic. can't put it into words.. anyways, it was a wonderful run. Calves and hams (but mostly calves) are super sore now, but no complaints. It has a flavor of "oh, hi! you're starting to get into shape!" And it's wonderful. Finally, iced the inside right knee that had been paining me sharply all day, while I was walking and not moving much.

I like inspiration, and being inspired. And being fascinated.

Tuesday, July 27, 2010
3900 yards, swimming with Brian.
500 fr
400 IM (kick/drill/swim)
300 stroke
8 x 75 "slight IM" (I've never heard it called that before)
10 x 100 stroke (descend 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, then 1 all out)
4 x 75 slight IM drill
5 x 100 IM (fast fly, fast fly/back, etc.)
6x50 kick
100 easy

notes: I was a cheater on backstroke, today.. do dadooo.. and my hamstrings are sore (from yesterday's run. Calves are doing better =D).

4 miles, Lacy the long way. Was feeling pretty okay especially when turning onto San Marino, until I stopped at Lacy to pee. And then it was kind of a struggle... my attempt at tempo turned into 400 meters, and then I had to stop because a stitch was killing me. at the end of the day, i am exhausted and thirsty, but inspired?

Wednesday, July 28.
Off. Mental health day? And then Tiki Ti, tamales, and vegan pizza. Heather's leaving tomorrow :(.

Thursday, July 29, 2010.
20 miles biking, Chantry flats, in 1:38, not including stoplights time (which were a while). My first ride by myself! My bike makes this weird tick noise - I think it's the cycling computer or something. Climb felt pretty okay, especially towards the end of it, when I think it flattens out a bit :), after getting up that first long steep hill, and it was hot, so I appreciated when it was shady. Saw Brian descending as I was going up.

And then 45 mins barefoot on the north field with Clara. Right after eating dinner for me... but it was mostly okay :). Legs felt great, stomach did a little complaining towards the end. Felt the left plantar fasci a bit for a little bit, but it was ok. Right knee still feels a little bothersome, walking around.

Friday, July 30, 2010
11.2 miles, Patrician with Stephanie and Clara. Sweet! I have finally done this run. My stomach was bothering me a lot of the time, so I thought I was going super granny slow (which I was for part of it). But the run was in 96 mins (plus a bit probably), which isn't that bad :). I think I was in a bad mood, though. And my stomach... grr. The legs weren't sore at all, though after the run, and I wasn't really tired. I think they were feeling a bit tired, though, noticeably on the hills. Definitely want to do this one, again!

Saturday, July 31, 2010
Basically off... I splashed around the pool in the PM, with Tony, Jessie, and Sally. I pulled my hamstring while treading water though... gawwwd. It doesn't really hurt, it's just an acute pain when I'm stretching. I'm going to be peeved if one of the only things that makes me mildly happy is being taken away from me.

Sunday, August 1, 2010
~10, something that I improvised because I couldn't remember how to do full arroyo, in 87 minutes, with myself. Also, I kind of made shit up for down in the arroyo, so I don't really know exactly how long it was. I think the hamstring was fine. It was a bit warm for part of the run, because I started around noon, and the clouds were disappearing.

Things that happened on my run:
1. On the stretch of El Molino right before turning onto Mission, there was this bird that kept flying really close to my head, and making angry noises. I wonder if it thought that my hair swishing was a bird, and it was getting mad that my hair was ignoring it... it's kind of like when there's a bug that keeps going in circles around you, except it was a bird, so I was kind of freaked out.
2. There was a guy stopped with one pant leg (short leg) pulled up, under the bridge, peeing (wtf?), and he looked embarrassed when I came within close distance of him and then I ran away, and was kind of disturbed.
3. And then later, coming out of the Arroyo, I was kind of confused as to which way to go, because I remember the one time I came up out of the rose bowl on some variation of upper arroyo, we went by the swimming pool. So I went up a trail there, and the gate at the top was locked. As I stood there, I considered how much I didn't want to go back town the hill again, and then hopped over the fence... it's not that badass, but it makes me feel accomplished.
4. And then on Walnut, there was this lady on a bicycle that passed by me at least 3 times (I have no idea what she was doing). Maybe she was lost or something.

On that note, this is the most running I have ever done in a single week :). I've never broken the 40 mile barrier. Not that that really means anything, but.. I guess it makes me feel accomplished. Time to carry on with the other parts of my life, now... :(.

asleep on a sunbeam.

Tuesday, July 20, 2010
37.5 miles biking, of the river trail variety with Perrin and Brian. Boy, he bikes fast... so I was totally dying. And then I ate a blueberry crisp cliff bar, and then things were a bit better. I'm glad I went out, though! My legs are .... tired. ALSO. I had a chain-grease-free ride! I only got a little on the front of my shin before I even started on the ride =].

Wednesday, July 21, 2010
Off.

3 miles, with Heather. as part of Megumi's scavenger hunt for Ian. legs felt like logs.

Friday, Saturday: off.

Sunday, July 25, 2010
65 miles biking, Glendora Mountain Road with Brian, Heather, and Julian. Longest ride I've ever done! My legs are soooo incredibly tired right now, but I really enjoyed the ride - the climb was pretty okay, actually :). Knees are feeling it a bit, but over all, great success. And then I went to the pool for a little bit, maybe did 1000 or something. And then I was inspired to do 30 mins barefoot on the north field with Clara, after dinner. Achilles were feeling a bit sore, but other than that it felt great. The temperature was nice and cool, and it was getting dark, and it was just pretty much perfect and very enjoyable.

Dreams feel real while we're in them. It's only when we wake up that we realize something was actually strange.

AAAh the top MUST fall over... it must, it must!!!

8.5 miles running, 4000 yards swimming.
__________
Sunday - Tuesday: off. I was in Colorado for a conference type thing. Didn't really have much time to exercise, and the neighborhood around the hotel was pretty ghetto looking.

Tuesday, Wednesday: off. Why? Lamest injury ever: I sprained my toe, on the way to Coldstone when I tripped on the sidewalk... doh!

Thursday, July 15, 2010
4000 yards in the pool.

Friday, July 16, 2010
5.5 loop at Chantry. Oh boy, it was hot today... was kind of dying on the exposed parts especially. Nope, my body is still not a fan of heat, and can't handle it. The rest of it down near the river was pretty good, though.

Sunday, July 18, 2010
25 minutes around the north field with Clara. Followed by some drills, and then light weights. I don't think my right plantar fasci likes barefoot.

---------------------------------------
9.5 miles, 2000 yard swimming.

2000 yards in the pool.

Fri-Sat, in SD for OneRepublic. Then I uh walked to Lacy Park and back on Sunday? :) The fireworks in Lacy park are soo close to you.. there was ash falling all over us.

Thursday, July 8, 2010
Elliptical'd at the gym for 35 minutes (= 4 miles..?). Then did some light weights.

Friday, July 9, 2010
5.5 miles, loop at Chantry flats. The first part of this getting up to the trail is the same as going to the helipad (i.e. not very kind.) Some parts of this trail are exposed, but it's really nice once you get down near the creek/river/whatever it is. And then the last .6 miles is kind of a bitch... very steep, exposed, and concrete.

there's nothing i can do, a total eclipse of the heart

4 miles, Lacy the long way with Ian Shapiro. I think I was running faster than I've been running by myself, and we didn't stop at the top of the stairs, so I was kind of quite out of breath on that part. On an unrelated note, I need more sleep... I seriously felt like I was going to pass out today. I've been having a "sleep a lot one day, then sleep not very much the next day" schedule. I'm not sure why I can't fall asleep every other day. And I think I've been spending too much time in lab, because I feel like whenever I close my eyes, I see sections of mouse colon. I also dreamt about staining, the last 2 times I slept... doh.

we buried truth under playgrounds.

we buried truth under playgrounds

I recently discovered "A Softer World," and there's just something about it resonates with me (a lot of them are reeeeally messed up, though...) It's so absurd, and constantly one of those "oh my god... you did not just say that" moments. It's like "a weird sad clown that lives under your bed. except when he cries, the tears are blood. and when the clown coughs, the most adorable kitten in the world pops out of his mouth and loves you."

Thursday, June 24, 2010
Went for a morning swim with Tony and Sam. It was a really short swim, because I got bored after a short time... only did maybe 1100 yards. 400 fr, 300 drill/drill/swim, 300 kick, then worked on some pulling.

17.6 miles running, 1100 yards swimming.

8.75 miles, Lower Arroyo. Didn't time myself (somewhere between 80 and 90 minutes) - when I started out, I was unsure whether I would have the willpower to actually do the whole run, or whether I would turn back at Garfield, or end up doing a short jog before getting tired. So I was going at a very conservative pace. Weather was quite nice out - it's overcast, and I think that helped a lot. But I was running, and felt good. And as I was nearing the turn up to California out of the arroyo, I was considering doing full arroyo, but decided not to (didn't want to completely be stupid and trash the legs since I haven't really been running very much). I hit almost every red light on the way back up California, and my right knee was hurting a little (fatigue). Anyways, run all in all felt great, and I feel great, right now. So I am inspired to run and get fast, and am not put off from it. I feel like more often than not, the first attempt at running after not running for a while kind of puts me off, because I feel super out of shape and inclined to stop, turn around, walk (or any combination of those...) shameful..

Sunday, June 27, 2010
4 miles, Lacy the Long way. It's getting hot outside! (which made the run progressively more miserable as it progressed). Woke up late, after (too) many hours of karaoke and playing Bang! last night. Legs (quads specifically) are a bit sore, walking around, but they're pretty fine when running. Light abs and very light lifting in the gym afterward.

Monday, June 28, 2010
4.85 miles, Huntington with Ian Shapiro. Quads still a bit sore. I like getting up early.

Tuesday, June 29, 2010
Off. Decided to give the legs a break, catch up on sleep, and then spent a quality 13 hours in lab.

It's so beautiful it makes you want to cry.

Life is so sad, but so beautiful.

Tuesday, June 15, 2010
swam a little bit with Mom.

Wednesday, June 16, 2010
~3 miles - Twice around campus with Sally. Achilles were very tight when I started running, but it kind of went away. 2.5 miles in, my knees were starting to feel it.

Friday, June 18, 2010
19 miles bike, loop to top of Lake.

Was afraid that I would embarrass myself with Ian, Perrin, and this guy named Zane. But I think it turned out okay.. the hills didn't (completely) kill me. I found riding out of my saddle to be pretty okay, today!

First real day of SURF, didn't get enough sleep last night (late night convos and then finally decided to do some work), exercise in the form of an enjoyable bike ride and company, quite healthful food = a pretty okay day :).

Sunday, June 20, 2010
Biked with Julian and Caleb.. was heading towards echo park, but then Caleb got a flat, and I had to get back for dinner, so I turned around early. I'm not sure how far it was... not very far.

love is not a victory march, it's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah.

No swimming today... hum de dum. Ran Huntington with Clara instead, slowly. It probably took 45 minutes or something. And then we sped up for some reason at the end =/.

3300 yards, swimming.
I swam by myself in the afternoon - worked on my stroke, thinking about the pull. Feels better, after trying with paddles, but my arms got tired, and I was also really hungry by the end, so I didn't do the IM's. I attempted to do Brian's workout, but kind of failed... so I ended up doing:

I think I tweaked my groin and pinched a nerve in my lower right back =[. Time to hit up the training room later today...

Saturday, May 8, 2010
48.0 miles biking (minus the distance from Avery to Lloyd), along the River Trail. Well it looks something like that, but I screwed up the route for the way there (i.e. there are extra weird turns that gmaps did on "automatically for cyclists," so we (Julian "JUANPII" (lol at that license plate) and Clara. probably went a bit further on the trail.. but resolution isn't high enough.

Anyway.. hills are my nemesis (even little tiny ones) but I like flat parts. I got pretty pooped on the way back though.. like my legs were just shot, so I was going granny speed pretty much from the river trail back.. for the last 10+miles, heh.

can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars?

Monday, April 26, 2010
Track workout.
4x400 (84, 86, 87, 106 (?) )
(that last one I stopped, turned around, and was trying to make Clara run with...)
4x200 (36, 38, 39, 34)

I thought it was going to be long run today, but I was wrong.. it was a hot one, today.
+warm up to Allen and then cool down around Arden afterward.

Saturday, May 1, 2010
4 mile bike ride (hahah..) to Great Harvest with Clara (hehe.. a very legit bike ride).
1600+400+400 later in the evening.
The next few weeks are going to be dry ones, I've decided.

i took a walk around the world to ease my troubled mind

It rained today, and I wanted to run. But I'm sick. So I opted for sleep instead. I think I'm going to go back to bed now.

Sunday, April 18, 2010
Chantry flats, rather slowly. I am out of shape. Somehow, Julian's persistence managed to convince my bummy self to go exercise. Props to him. The descent was not as bad as I was anticipating. Julian got a flat tire on the way back, so we stopped and I saw a tire get changed.

2 weekends ago, I hiked in Serrano Canyon. Sally was the one who told me to sign up for the hike with her, but then she ended up not going.

Friday, April 23, 2010
Ran around campus at a very leisurely pace with Sally. felt good to be on my feet.

Then later in the night, did a "beverage" 1200. hmm...

mrawr, I have been sick/busy/preoccupied. hence lack of exercise.

.

Monday, March 8, 2010

6.84 miles, Upper Arroyo in 58 minutes, in lieu of taking a nap through practice. (I'm not sure of the exact mileage, because I made up the route for down in the Arroyo, where trees are obscuring the aerial view of the path.)

Calves (more the left one) hurt... tightness is the aftermath of meets, and the shins were starting to hurt. Also started getting a stitch. Lots of stop and go at traffic lights. Finished the run with Masha, Sylvia, and Natalya. Stretched the calves/iced the left one, after doing a stick massage.

aaaand... I'm running the 5k on Friday!

Friday, March 12, 2010
Oxy distance carnival: I ran the 5k. But for some reason, they didn't get my time - the finish was a bit funky, and they told me I had another lap to do, even though I didn't. Stephanie can attest to this. The 2nd half of it was kind of terrible (slowed down a lot lot lot). It was 20:50 or so (def. under 21:00).

in my head, it's going down

17 miles.

Monday, March 1, 2010

Orange Grove, 7 miles (well, 6.99, but I'll round up) in 54 minutes.

I ran with Masha. Sylvia was running at the same pace, in the same general vicinity, but not really "with." And Natalya was sick.. but she was running anyways, silly girl. I think I'll probably be sore tomorrow.. since I was sore after last Friday's run... and today's was longer to say the least... heh. But it felt good to run. I'm actually quite excited about being committed to running track this year, despite the seeming lack of enthusiasm on the team's behalf. The (distance squad portion of the) team is quite small. My back/shoulders are really tight, and I think it gets worse when I run.. hm. My legs were getting tired toward the end of the run, and red lights were too sparse. Then we did some light abs afterward. Other news: I got new shoes with Sally today! The guy at the store was a fan of Ian Shapiro.

Tuesday, March 2, 2010

Track workout: 7x500 (84, 85, 85, 86, 86, 85, 81)

mm, I am sore. My calves started to cramp during the cooldown, a few times =[. And I think my left one is a bit swollen. And my quads are sore, too. But I've been more sore before. I love this weather (for running). A little bit nippy is perfect.

Wednesday, March 3, 2010

Off. I'm so tired.. and I'm not sure why. I effectively slept for 10 hrs + another 3 in the afternoon, through practice. I'm not sure what's up. Not feeling so hot, though.

Thursday, March 4, 2010

Attempted to do sprinter workout, but they were on the machines. So I ended up just running 2 laps around the track, and then going to the weight room for a little bit. Note to self: no more sprint workouts.

Friday, March 5, 2010

Team meeting, then pre-race + 6 striders. Afterward, very light abs.

Saturday, March 6, 2010

SCIAC bottom 4 meet. I ran the open 400 (67.8), 800 (2:51) and 4x4 (split 69).

The 4 was okay, but I don't think I'm going to do another open 4.. that last 100 =P. The 800 was terrible: 1) it was not that long after the 400.. about 25 minutes. 2) My calves, the left one was really tight and I could feel it on the last 250 (cramp-y), so lots of people passed me, and I couldn't really do anything about it. My hip also has that feeling where I feel like it needs to crack, but it won't. Calves... go away.

go girl it's ya birthday, open wide i know you're thirsty

Friday, February 26, 2010
Did a short run to just before Allen and back (from the gym).. fewer than 2 miles (more like 1.75...) Hello, legs. Hello, track. Hello, world.

Last swim practice of the season...

Sunday, Monday February 21-22, 2010

SCIACs for swimming. Swam the 50 in prelims on Sunday; didn't do very well. Swam the first leg of the 200 fr relay (27.31), and the breast leg of the 400 medley (35.9/1:17). Monday: Was pretty tired and sore :(. Swam the 100 fly (1:14) and 100 breast (1:20) in prelims. Then the 50 breast in the 200 medley relay (35.1). Oof!

pour me a heavy dose of atmosphere

Monday, February 15, 2010

Virtual swim meet.
50 free (27.23, season best)
100 fly (1:14)
100 breast (1:16, season best)

This is the meet that we were going to swim on Saturday. But then we missed the plane flight (!)... so then we came back, and swam it today instead.

Swim practice - pre-race.

i can feel you, i don't even know you.

Monday, February 1, 2010

Went swimming with Sally for ~40 mins.

Tuesday, February 2, 2010

Swim practice. Breaststroke drills, 10x100 (50 breast/50 free), 6 dives, 3x400's (2 pull, 1 swim). Then I got out.

Wednesday, February 3, 2010
Swim practice. Heated, stretched, ultrasounded the knee. Erin gave me 2 exercises to do. Saw Susan today - she brought Henry. And Scott looked sick =[.

Saturday, February 6, 2010

Swim meet vs. La Verne, at La Verne. Went alright - I placed 2nd in all my events: 50 free (27.51), 100 fly (35.29/ 1:12.99), 100 breast (1:17.0?).

---

Ooof... what a crazy week. I feel like I'm in a drama. But oh m'gosh... I have so much work to do! Midterms....

Baby are you down, down, down, down, down

bummy bummy week.

Friday: swim practice. but I was really late, because I had to go get treatment, too.

Saturday:
Swim meet vs. Oxy. I was only in two events; I'm not really sure why.. but they weren't good races... embarrassingly slow:
100 free (3rd, 30.94 1:06.27)
200 free (2nd, 31.90/1:10.05/1:50.87/2:30.92).

I kind of don't have any stamina.

Sunday:
Swim meet vs. Chapman and Mills.
50 Free (27.56)
100 Free (1:06.52.... I really hate this race because I'm so slow now).
100 Breast (1:18.72)

Wasn't going to go to the meet because I have a scary ton of work to do, but I ended up going anyways. Ah! So now it's panic time..

the day the music died.

Thursday, January 21, 2010

swim practice. iced the knee.

Friday, January 22, 2010

swim practice. felt really slow. im stressed out. heated and ultrasounded and stretched. i have tendonitis, apparently.

Saturday, January 23, 2010

Swim meet vs. Pomona Pitzer, at Pomona. Today was kind of a slow meet - their pool is warm. 50 free (27.66), 100 fly (hehe, 1:14.24), 100 breast (1:18.74). Haven't swum the 100 fly in years... so I was pretty much cruising, hoping I wouldn't completely die. But I won it, haha (only 3 techers were swimming it). I think I want to try again, and go under 1:10. I am very very exhausted. need more sleep...

i breathe in with the tick and out with the tock

Tuesday, January 12, 2010 (ack.. I keep typing 2009!!)
Went to swim practice. Worked on turns. Oof, am lacking stamina... I was in a lane with the 2 fast frosh guys, and they lapped me, haha.

Wednesday, January 13, 2010
Swim practice. Another rather sluggish practice. Felt good with fins. 2 meets this weekend! Wah.

Friday, January 15, 2010
barefoot 400 with Clara (slow.. 74), joined by the shoe'd Perrin (who was blazing!) Barefoot is hard... we were laughing and complaining down the first straight. Then swim practice. Not very much yardage at all.

My knee stared hurting during practice, so I talked to Erin afterwards. I iced. Something about a tendon. The area where the ice was, became all puffed up and red and very warm after I took it off =[. Not sure why that happened.

Saturday, January 16, 2010
Swim meet vs. Cal Lu at Cal Lu. A very slow meet for me, personally, but I don't have that many grounds to complain.

Iced the knee area again; iced the right hamstring, too.

Sunday, January 17, 2009
Swim meet vs. Chapman at Chapman. 'Twas a long day. I swam the breaststroke leg of the 400 medley relay (1:19), the 50 free (27.30), and the 200 breast (38/43/45/44: 2:52.65). Was a bit sore today. Didn't sleep well - didn't fall asleep, and couldn't go back to sleep after 7:20.

---

Wednesday, January 6, 2010
50 minutes, Madre. Went to track practice today... not swimming this week because I'm supposed to recover more, first. Ran Madre with Natalya until Sierra Madre, then she turned around and I joined G and Anton. It was a pleasant run, though I was getting tired... feet are feeling blistery on the balls. Time for new shoes?

Saturday, January 9, 2010
Skiing at Mammoth... wheee! Haven't done this much skiing in a day, ever.. I think. I like going slowly. Spent most of the day on the slopes with Eric Tai :).
